The High Commission of India in Nairobi celebrated the 141stbirth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on Monday, 31 October 2016 at the Apa Pant Auditorium of the High Commission of India, Nairobi.
The event began with the lighting of the lamp and offering of floral tributes to the portrait of Sardar Patel.
In her address, High Commissioner spoke on the life and contribution of Sardar Vallbhbhai Patel in the freedom struggle of India. The keynote speaker at the event, Mr. PherozeNowrojee, a distinguished lawyer and recipient of the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman, highlighted the contribution of Sardar Patel in the unification of independent India.
A photo exhibition highlighting the work and life of Sardar Patel was displayed. The documentary "Man of Silence - Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel" was also screened. A power point presentation on the 14th PBD Convention 2017 was also shown during the event.
The event was attended by prominent Kenyans of Indian origin including Mr Sharad Rao, Chairman of the Judges and Magistrates Vetting Board of Kenya, Mr Nitin Malde, Chairperson of the Hindu Council of Kenya, Mr HasmukhDevani, Vice Chairperson of the Asian Foundation, MDs of the Bank of India and Bank of Baroda and other prominent Indian community members.
