Hon’ble Minister Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu visits Kenya

 

Hon'ble Minister for Urban Development, Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation and Information & Broadcasting, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu visited Kenya from 7-11 May, 2017 to participate in the 26th Session of the Governing Council of UN-HABITAT held in Nairobi. India was unanimously elected as the President of the Governing Council of the UN-Habitat for a period of two-years (2017-19). Hon’ble Minister Chaired the 26th Session of the Governing Council which had the theme “Implementing the New Urban Agenda”. Dr. Ms. Nandita Chatterjee, Secretary (Housing) delivered a statement on behalf of Government of India during the High-Level segment of the 26th Governing Council. During the visit, Hon’ble Minister held a meeting with the Executive Director of the UN-Habitat Dr. Joan Clos on 9 May, 2017 and discussed matters of mutual interest. He held bilateral discussions with the Kenyan delegation led by Hon’ble Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. James Macharia on 10 May, 2016. He also held bilateral discussions with several other delegations including, Afghanistan, Malaysia, etc. Hon’ble Minister also chaired the Bureau Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on 8 May, 2017. On the evening of 9 May, Hon’ble Minister interacted with the Indian diaspora at the Apa Pant Auditorium of the High Commission of India. Hon’ble Minister hosted a lunch for the Bureau Members of the 26th Governing Council on 9 May, 2017. On the 10 May, 2017, High Commissioner hosted a lunch in honour of the Hon’ble Minister at India House.
